India: People of Mizoram should change their perception of BJP: LS candidate Aseem Chaudhary 25/03/2024 - 12:07

Aizawl, Mar 25 (PTI) Vanlalhmuaka, the BJP's candidate for the lone Lok Sabha seat in Mizoram, on Monday called upon the people of the state to change their perception of the saffron party.

He blamed rival parties in Mizoram for projecting BJP as a "communal" and "anti-Christian" party.

The BJP state unit president said that Mizoram should also "learn ways to collaborate with the NDA government at the Centre like other northeastern states to usher in more development".

Aizawl, Aug 29 (PTI) At least 880 more people, including 166 children, tested positive for COVID-19 in Mizoram in the last 24 hours, pushing the tally to 57,522, a health department official said on Sunday.

The death toll rose to 212 as three fresh fatalities due to the infection were reported during the period, he said.

At least 166 children, six health professionals and a Border Security Force jawan were among the new patients, the official said.

Ziona Chana, the head of a local Christian sect that allows polygamy, died on Sunday, Zoramthanga, the chief minister of Mizoram and who goes by one name, said in a tweet.

Aizawl, May 29 (PTI) The African Swine Fever (ASF) continued to wreak havoc in Mizoram, killing 4,650 pigs and piglets in a little over two months, an official said on Saturday.

The ASF outbreak has caused a loss of Rs 18.60 crore to the farmers of the state, said Dr Lalhmingthanga, the Joint Director (Livestock Health) at the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Science Department.

The first pig death due to ASF was reported on March 21 at Lungsen village in south Mizoram's Lunglei district, bordering Bangladesh, he said.

Aizawl, Apr 28 (PTI) A power crisis in Mizoram is looming large as two of six public sector utilities may start regulating supply to the state, if the government, which is currently facing a fund crunch, is not able to pay a part of Rs 130 crore outstanding dues to these companies, a minister said on Wednesday.

The outstanding dues to power utilities have risen as the government could not receive its share of funds from the Centre, state power and electricity minister R Lalzirliana said.

Aizawl, Feb 7 (PTI) Churches in Mizoram reopened on Sunday after a gap of over 10 months.

The government has allowed churches to reopen with only 50 per cent seating capacity and permitted church services only during the daytime on every Saturday and Sunday.

The decision to reopen the places of worship in the Christian-majority state was taken following a dip in COVID-19 cases.

The religious institutions were shut since March 22 last year after the COVID-19 outbreak.

Aizawl, Jul 23 (PTI) Many people in Mizoram's Champhai district bordering Myanmar are spending nights outside their homes in makeshift tents after a series of earthquakes hit the northeastern state in a month, an official said.

So far, at least 22 earthquakes have rocked four districts - Champhai, Saitual, Siaha and Serchhip since June 18. The tremors ranged from 4.2 to 5.5 in magnitude. Champhai was the hardest-hit district.

India: 41 people put under home isolation in Mizoram Aseem Chaudhary 07/03/2020 - 10:36

Aizawl, Mar 6 (PTI) At least 41 people, who recently returned from foreign countries, have been put under home isolation in Mizoram, as a precautionary measure, and 14,868 persons have been screened for coronavirus, a senior official said on Friday.

State Health secretary H Lalengmawia told PTI that 41 people who have recently returned from China, Singapore, Macau, Dubai, USA, Seychelles and Hongkong are being put under home isolation though they did not show any symptoms of novel coronavirus.
