Junior doctors in England begin 5th round of strikes with 96-hour walkout over pay

11 August 2023; AA: Thousands of junior doctors across England staged a walkout on Friday as part of their four-day strike due to an ongoing dispute over pay and working conditions.

Members of the British Medical Association (BMA) in England are staging a fifth round of strikes, walking out for a full 96 hours from 7:00 a.m. (0600GMT) on Friday until Tuesday morning.

The BMA members are also expected to hold a demonstration in central London later on Friday.

Iraq Premier inaugurates Turkiye-built hospital

10 August 2023; MEMO: Iraq's Prime Minister, on Thursday, inaugurated a hospital that was built by a Turkish construction company in the south-eastern Maysan province, Anadolu Agency reports.

Premier Mohammed Shia Al-Sudan participated in the opening of Al-Hekim Training and Research Hospital, which was constructed by the Turkish company, Universal Acarsan, and has a capacity of 600 beds.

Palestine Prisoners Club warns of skin disease among detainees at Ramon Prison

24 June 2023; MEMO: The Palestinian Prisoners Club (PPC) warned on Friday of the potential spread of skin disease among Palestinian prisoners at the Israeli Ramon Prison, a statement disclosed.

The PPC announced that ten prisoners at Ramon Prison had contracted a skin disease, expressing concerns that it may spread among other prisoners if medical treatment is not given.

Ballia (UP), Jun 18 (PTI) Fifty-four people admitted at a district hospital in this Uttar Pradesh district have died in the last three days, health officials said on Sunday.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr Jayant Kumar said two people have died due to heat stroke in Ballia district till Sunday.

COVID-19 global health emergency is over: WHO

05 May 2023; MEMO: The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Friday announced the COVID-19 pandemic is no longer a global health emergency, Anadolu News Agency reports.

"Yesterday, the Emergency Committee met for the 15th time and recommended to me that I declare an end to the public health emergency of international concern. I have accepted that advice," WHO head, Tedros Ghebreyesus, told a press briefing.

Turkiye, 7 EU countries to set up disaster emergency medical service

24 Apr 2023; MEMO: Turkiye and seven EU member states will receive more than €106 million (approximately $117 million) from the EU budget to develop emergency medical services, the European Commission announced on Monday.

"The European Commission is allocating over €106 million to seven EU member states and Turkiye" to set up the first pan-European field hospital, Balazs Ujvari, spokesperson for crisis management announced at the EU executive body's daily news briefing.

76 samples of new Covid variant XBB1.16 found in India: INSACOG data

New Delhi, Mar 18 (PTI) A total of 76 samples of COVID-19's XBB.1.16 variant have been found which might be behind the recent rise of cases in the country, according to INSACOG data.

The variant has been found across Karnataka (30), Maharashtra (29), Puducherry (7) Delhi (5), Telangana (2), Gujarat (1), Himachal Pradesh (1) and Odisha (1), the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) data showed.
